Here are some resources that may help you find more information about Eating Disorders or Eating Disorder Services.

 

Personally, I found the Maudsley course at Bodywhys extremely helpful. Remember too if you are looking for books about Eating Disorders, your local library may have one available, or can order one in from anywhere in the country- free of charge with a library card.  

I've also listed several support groups and/or advocacy groups. This page is a work in progress so will continue to be updated.

F.E.A.S.T.

F.E.A.S.T. is an international non-profit organization of and for parents and caregivers of loved ones affected by eating disorders. Our free programs and services offer families much needed support, information, skills, and tools to help them on their journey. F.E.A.S.T. is about parents helping parents, about paying it forward, and about being there for families at a time when they need us the most.

HSE National Clinical Programme for Eating Disorders

The HSE National Clinical Programme for Eating Disorders (NCP-ED) is a collaborative initiative between the HSE, the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland, and BodyWhys - the national support group for people with eating disorders.

New Maudsley Carers

Jenny Langley is one of several “experienced” carers who have been trained by Gill Todd RMN, MSc to deliver the New Maudsley Carer Skills workshops in the community, as well as to coach carers via other mediums such as phone, e-mail, and support groups. Jenny has also taken part in several of the New Maudsley research projects and coached hundreds of carers. Jenny was part of the pilot project in Cambridge to assess the value of providing a series of face to face workshops to carers.

Addictive Eaters Anonymous

"Addictive Eaters Anonymous (AEA) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from addictive eating. AEA has members who have suffered from anorexia, bulimia and binge eating. ​AEA is not a diet or weight loss organisation. AEA members follow a Twelve Step programme, based on that of Alcoholics Anonymous. Through working the Steps, members find a Higher Power and freedom from the obsession with food.

CARED Ireland

CARED Ireland is a group of parents and carers who have a loved one with an eating disorder, that have come together to support each other and advocate for more adequate and effective treatment for our children. "Our expertise is our experience." For more information or to join, please email:

Families for Reform of CAMHS

Families for Reform of CAMHS is an advocacy and support group made up of over a thousand families across Ireland calling for urgent and real reform of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

Mind EveryBody

We are an advocacy group that are a mix of carers, sufferers of Eating Disorders, and professionals. We are working together to ask for reform in Eating Disorder services in Ireland. We also encourage awareness of what eating disorders are, and what sufferers and carers go through, to try and break stigmas and promote understanding and compassion about the disorder.

Parent Action and Care Group

This voluntary group was started by a carer when she found little to no Eating Disorder supports for families or parents. The group holds regular meetings in County Kerry, which often include guest speakers. For more information how to join, please contact Joyce: 0873843692.

SupportED Families

Zuzanna and Deirdre make up the SupportED Families team, and together, they bring professional knowledge, personal experience and a huge passion for educating and empowering parents, partners and professionals on Eating Disorder recovery. They have regular online support groups, webinars, and a newsletter. Please note some services are paid.

Marino Therapy Centre

"Marino Therapy Centre’s eating disorders treatment programme provides a comprehensive, supportive, personal and tailored experience for people who require a more structured recovery environment. Each programme is specially tailored for person’s needs." They hold a monthly reflection group session, and carers are welcome too. Please note services are paid.
